Shea Butter Benefits –

We have used shea butter in most of our Homemade Body Lotion recipes. Shea butter is known as one of the best natural moisturizers for our skin. It can be used both on face as well as body skin. Shea butter, due to its nourishing fatty acids content, can moisturize our skin wonderfully. Shea butter comes with five principal fatty acids – palmitic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid, linoleic acid and arachidic acid. Oleic acid can be found in vegetable oils and it is used as the main ingredient in many skin moisturizers, soaps as well as creams. Stearic acid has lubricating benefits and it is used in many cosmetics. Linoleic acid has anti inflammatory benefits, that helps to heal dry skin effectively. Palmitic acid also has lubricant properties and Arachidic acid is also used in beauty products as a moisturizer.

Shea butter is a great emollient as well as natural humectant, which not only provides moisturization, but also can lock the moisture in the skin. This is why, regular application of shea butter helps to get rid of dry and dehydrated skin. The best part about using shea butter is that, it can penetrate the skin easily and does not clog pores at all. Hence, it is safe to use even on delicate and sensitive skin. When the skin gets excessively dry, it can develop cracks. Topical application of shea butter nourishes the skin from within and makes it soft and supple. Dry skin can cause itching and in some cases, skin starts to peel as well. Shea butter, with its moisturizing as well as anti inflammatory benefits, work effectively to heal the skin.

Coconut Oil Benefits –

Coconut oil is also one of the main ingredients that we have used in our homemade body lotion recipes. It is a great natural moisturizer for our skin. Coconut oil contains high amounts of medium chain fatty acids, that help to retain moisture content in the skin. Being an excellent emollient, coconut oil help in preventing moisture loss from the skin. Thus regular application of coconut oil can give fast relief from dry skin. Along with the fatty acids, coconut oil is a rich source of vitamin E, which also helps with dry skin treatment. When used on the skin, it forms a protective layer on the skin and protects it from the environmental damages as well as helps to hold moisture in the skin, thus reducing dryness. The best part of using beeswax in skin care products is that it doesn’t clog pores and make the skin suffocate.

Also, beeswax is a natural humectant. It attracts moisture from the air and seals it in to the skin. This in turn, helps our skin to stay hydrated for a long time. It is a good source of vitamin A. Vitamin A is extremely important to heal skin dryness, as it has the ability to boost sebum secretion by the sebaceous glands of our skin, thus helping the skin to stay moisturized.
