Before describing simple vitamin C face mask recipes that you can prepare yourself, let us first share the benefits of vitamin C face mask.

Benefits of Vitamin C Face Mask

1. Reduces Aging Signs

One of the best benefits of using vitamin C face mask is its ability to smoothen fine lines and wrinkles. It has potent anti aging properties. Topical application of vitamin C has the ability to reduce signs of aging as well as photo-aging (aging affect on the skin due to the sun exposure).

2. Promotes Collagen Production

As we just described, vitamin C can smoothen the appearance of wrinkles and lines, and it does that by boosting collagen production in the skin. Collagen is a type of protein which works as the structural base for our skin. As we age, the level of collagen starts to decrease and as a result, skin starts to lose its elasticity, turning saggy with aging signs appearing here and there.

Vitamin C face mask boosts the collagen production and restores as well as enhances the elasticity of the skin, thus preventing the appearance of aging signs. Fibroblast is the most common skin cell that produces collagen. Vitamin C helps in stimulating fibroblast activity and thus increases the level of collagen in our skin, which in turn makes the skin youthful and firm.

3. Reduces Stretch Marks

If nothing else has worked on your stretch marks, try vitamin C. Basically, collagen plays a vital role in minimizing the appearance of stretch marks as well as preventing the formation of new ones. We have already discussed how vitamin C helps with improved collagen synthesis in the skin. Collagen is important to improve the stretching ability of our skin.

When there is enough collagen in our skin, it is likely to remain firm even after going through stretching. But when the collagen level decreases, if the skin is stretched too much, it causes scars in the middle layers of the skin, that appear in the form of stretch marks on the top layer of the skin. Therefore, collagen is required to prevent stretch marks, and vitamin C boosts collagen production in the skin, thus helping to avoid stretch marks.

4. Keeps Skin Soft

Here also, collagen has a massive role to play. We know that collagen is responsible for keeping the skin smooth and firm, but decreased level of collagen can actually makes our skin dry. Vitamin C face mask, by boosting collagen production, helps to repair the skin texture and get rid of the skin dryness.

5. Brightens the Complexion

Here comes another amazing benefit of vitamin C face mask. Vitamin C is quite beneficial to brighten the complexion. It helps in inhibiting the over production of melanin. Melanin is the natural pigment that determines our skin color. The more melanin, the darker the skin color.

Vitamin C can inhibit tyrosinase enzyme, which is required to produce melanin. Thus it controls the activities of melanocyte skin cells and decrease the level of melanin produced by the cells. This way vitamin C helps in brightening and lightening the complexion.

6. Protects Skin from UV Damage

Vitamin C is a powerful anti oxidant and it fights off the free radicals. Studies have found that UV radiation can increase the formation of free radicals. The free radicals can make the sun burn even worse and can cause skin cancer. Being an anti oxidant, vitamin C helps in reducing the formation of free radicals and protect our skin from sun damage.

According to studies, UV exposure can decrease the level of vitamin C in the skin, hence topical application of vitamin C is important before going out in the sun. Try to use a vitamin C serum underneath your sunscreen for complete protection from sun exposure.

7. Fights off Acne

This is one of the most important benefits of vitamin C face mask. Acne is often caused by the free radicals. Vitamin C is one of the most recommended anti oxidants to fight off the free radicals. Free radicals are produced due to the air pollution or sun damage. These molecules cause skin inflammation, which blocks our skin pores and leads to acne breakouts.

Vitamin C face mask has been shown very effective to neutralize the free radicals and protect our skin from UV damage as well as pollution, which means less breakouts in future.

Furthermore, vitamin C, with its anti inflammatory properties, also helps to reduce irritation and inflammation of the skin caused by acne. Not only acne, but vitamin C face mask is also helpful to lighten acne scars. It boosts collagen production in the skin, which in turn fills in the holes from acne scars and smoothen out the skin.
