How to Make Shampoo at Home

Homemade Shikakai Shampoo

Ingredients : 6-7 pods of shikakai, 5-6 pieces of reetha, few pieces of dried amla

Put all the ingredients in a container and add 500 ml of water. Let those three ingredients soak in the water overnight (or at least 8-10 hours). The next morning heat this mixture. Turn the heat off when it starts to boil. Let it cool and then put the ingredients in a blender to make a smooth pulp. Once you notice a lot of froth in generating, you know your shampoo is almost ready. Strain the stuff and use the residue to wash your hair. If you have dry hair, mix some mild conditioner with this.

This homemade shampoo will make your hair squeaky clean and naturally bouncy. You will notice healthy, shiny hair and less hair fall. However, you can’t store this shampoo, so you have to take the trouble to make this shampoo every time you wash your hair.

Homemade coconut milk shampoo

Ingredients : 1 & ½ cups of coconut milk, 1 & ¾ cups of pure aloe vera gel, your choice of essential oil (few drops)

Put all the ingredients in a mixing bowl and mix them thoroughly using a whisk. Now pour this mixture into your ice cube trays and put them in freezer. Wait until they become frozen completely. Your homemade shampoo (cube) is ready. Before you want to use, take one cube out (at least the previous night) and keep it in a small container in the fridge. Take it out once you are ready to shower. Use this as a normal shampoo. It requires a little amount to wash off your hair, but it won’t lather. And if your hair feels a little heavy post wash, go for apple cider vinegar rinse. This is a good shampoo if you are suffering from itchy scalp.

Homemade lemon-cucumber shampoo

Ingredients : one lemon, one cucumber

Simply peel the lemon & cucumber and put them in a food processor to make a paste. Remember, we need a runny paste here. Now scrub your scalp with this runny paste and rinse really, really well to get rid of the lemon bits that tend to cling on your hair. The shampoo combines lemon’s cleansing properties and cucumber’s nourishing properties and if you have dry scalp, go for it.

Homemade cornstarch shampoo

Ingredients : 1 tbsp baking soda, 1 cup of water and cornstarch

Mix the baking soda and water and to this, add cornstarch until it reaches the desired consistency. That’s it! Use this as your regular shampoo. This homemade formula will make your hair naturally bouncy. Baking soda will make your scalp free from any buildup, dandruff and excess sebum.

Ingredients : 1 raw egg, 1 tbsp sugar, ½ cup iced tea, vanilla essence, cinnamon powder, 2 tbsp lemon juice, soap flakes, water.

Crack open the egg and pour it in a mixing bowl. Add the sugar and iced tea and whisk thoroughly to mix them. This will make a sticky solution. To this, add some cinnamon powder and vanilla essence for smell. Now add 2 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice to it. Put this mixture in the blender and make a smooth paste. Now add approx 50 soap flakes to it. (you can either buy pre flaked soaps or cut small flakes of soap using cheese grater). Pour about 50 ml of water to it. Blend again and your homemade shampoo is ready. Lemon is known for its cleansing properties and its effectiveness to treat dandruff, so here you have your homemade anti dandruff shampoo without any chemicals.

    Wonderful!! Grt recipes ! Tried shikakai one in bachpan ! It worked but due to its lengthy process never tried often rest are damn easy shud try !!
