The salt water of the sea, the sun, sand and the breeze – all so fantastic and refreshing for our mind and body. And not to forget, a perfect beauty regimen too. While all these can make our mind fresh and our skin glow, they can make our hair look a little messy. There is a little trick to save your hair and it’s called sea salt hair spray. Sea salt hair spray is a hair care product that can produce loose waves by adding volume and texture to our hair. You must have seen those gorgeously wavy ‘beach babe hair’ and wished to get that same effect on your hair? Well, sea salt hair spray can do exactly that – creating effortlessly wavy ‘beachy’ hair. Of late, these sea salt sprays are gaining popularity. Many Hollywood stars have also sported such loose, lovely ‘beachy’ waves, which look like naturally formed by the salty sea air. Here actually the magic of sea salt sprays lie! Most of the commercial sea salt sprays are expensive and more over they can make our hair dry as the salt strip the natural oil and moisture off our hair. So it’s always good to use homemade sea salt sprays. Read on to know how to make sea salt hair spray at home.
Homemade sea salt hair spray method 1
Things you will need : Spray bottle, 1 cup hot water, 1-2 tsp of sea salt, 1 tbsp of coconut oil or argan oil, ½ tsp of leave on conditioner (to prevent sea salt from drying out hair), some water based hair gel (for that extra bit of holding power)
Pour the hot water into the spray bottle. Add 1-2 tsp sea salt, 1 tbsp of coconut oil or argan oil, ½ tsp of any leave on conditioner and some water based hair gel. Shake the bottle well for at least a minute, so that all the ingredients mix well together. Your sea salt hair spray is ready. (You can use a coconut scented leave on conditioner for that particular ‘beachy’ scent).

Things you will need : hot water, Epsom salts, sea salts, aloe vera gel, leave on conditioner, essential oil of your choice, spray bottle
Put the hot water in the spray bottle. To this, add 2 tbsp of Epsom salts, ½ tsp of sea salt, 1 tsp aloe vera gel, ½ tsp conditioner and a few drops of essential oil of your choice. Shake well until all the ingredients get mixed with water.
Instead of hot water, chamomile tea can be used as base if you want to lighten your hair. Use black tea if you wish to darken your hair.

Things you will need : Spray bottle, hot water, all natural sea salt, ½ lemon juice, coconut oil
Take the spray bottle and put 1 cup hot water, 1 tbsp sea salt, ½ lemon juice and 2 tsp of coconut oil and shake well to combine all the ingredients. Lemon juice will naturally lighten your hair in the sun and coconut oil will provide moisturization.
How to use homemade sea salt hair spray
- Wet your hair, towel dry hair after a shower is ideal.
- Spray your sea salt hair spray all over your hair.
- Scrunch your hair with towel or your fingers for more waves and volumes. Blow dry your hair or simply let it dry naturally.
- For extra ‘beachy’ look, apply the spray and then plait your hair. Open up once the hair dries.
