Almost 70 years have passed since we Achieved freedom, and the obvious question that pops up in our mind is that how much we have developed as a nation!! We all know that the national development largely depends on women empowerment. There was a time when woman was only considered as house keepers in Indian society. Gradually the situation changed and women start getting educated, even highly educated and they are now working on par with men be it political or social field of life.

Previously women used to face many problems like dowry, sati, child marriages and many more social problems. But the freedom movement of India has actually opened up a new horizon for the women of India. Modern Indian women have honed their skills in every arena of life and fought against social and cultural restrictions and religious boundaries. There is no arena today that has not been conquered by Indian women. They have adorned high offices like Prime minister, President, Speaker of Lok Sabha etc. Indira Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Kalpana Chawla, Kiran Bedi etc have set examples that Indian women can achieve everything that a woman can dream of.

Since Independence, the status of Indian women has gone through so many great changes. The year 1995 has been declared as the International Year for Women. Today’s women are no longer confined to the secured domain of their home, but they are now in the battlefield of life, fully armored and ready to showcase their immense talent. Women are now awake and moving fast.

No developing country can ignore the strength of women, if they are to progress. India is gradually emerging as a powerful nation ever since women started to play significant role for national development. The transition of women from past to present has been phenomenal. Women, who were once considered as the masters of homemaking are now one of the main forces that shape a country. But there’s still a long way to go. So girls, let’s take oath to empower ourselves on this auspicious occasion of India’s 69th Independence Day. Long live the girl power!!
